*CHANGE OF VENUE FOR SUMMER CONCERT* We are very excited for our summer concert on Thursday however we have had to change venues due to an unforeseen fire breaking out at Blyth Comrades Club. Everybody is okay but we now have to change venues due to the damage. We will now be back at our old venue High Street Social Club just opposite our music school and the start time is now 7:30pm. Put it in your diaries folks! We can’t wait to showcase what we’ve been up to! 😃🎶

We our very pleased to announce the 18th member of our team; Jack for drums! 🥁 Jack will be our 3rd drum tutor and take over from Joe on a Thursday. Jack is super talented holding a Masters in Music Performance as well as Grade 8 Drums, Grade 6 Piano and Grade 5 Music Theory 🎶

She shows huge potential and it was great finally seeing her overcome her nerves and play in front of the people of Blyth. Well done Alexis! 🥳🎶

Blyth town carnival is tomorrow and we’re so excited to be a part of it! 😃 Not only is our amazing vocal tutor Charlotte Forman doing a short set on the stage at 12:10pm but we have a little music school showcase at 1:40pm🎶 Come watch our students Bethany, Alexis, Rosie and Isabelle perform instruments from vocals, guitar, violin and piano and see the talent that we’re creating right here in Blyth! 🎹🎸🎻🎤 Location is the Keel Row Car Park in Blyth 👍

KEWEN SCHOOL OF MUSIC UPDATE I hope you are all having a lovely Summer and keeping up the practice! We have some important changes coming to Kewen School of Music over the next few months to be aware of… PRICE CHANGES A few months ago we announced a small price increase to ensure that we adapt to the current business climate as well as be able to offer our tutors a small pay rise for their time working with us over the past 2 years. We went back on this decision due to tax reasons and the inevitable price increase due to VAT in the near future. From Friday 1st August we are going to become VAT registered which means we are going to need to put the prices of our hour and half hour slots up. Block bookings will also go up in price accordingly, however remaining best value for money. When purchasing a block booking, most instruments work out at the same price as our original pricing if you are still looking for ways to save money. Please get in touch for prices or see our website for further details. This change doesn’t come into effect until 1st August. This means that any lessons purchased before then, including block bookings will be honoured at the current price. For students who have just experienced a small price increase with family discounts and multiple lesson offers then your prices will currently remain the same until the end of the year. This does not apply to new students taking advantage of this offer. Unfortunately this has been a necessary change and step in the business which has been beyond our control. We have had no choice but to change our prices to these rates and this is the cheapest possible we can offer whilst still sticking to HMRC standards asking for 12% of our earnings. As always, we appreciate your understanding and we have to try and see it as a good thing long term as our business is growing and heading in the right direction. NEW WEBSITE BOOKING SYSTEM I have mentioned previously that we are working on an automated booking system so that lessons can be booked online without needing to go through myself. We have some things to iron out before properly launching it but our new website is live which you can view here - https://www.kewenschoolofmusic.uk/ This is mainly to make you aware that this is being implemented soon and should make the running of our schedules more efficient. We will aim for this to come in place around August time also. SUMMER CONCERT Our Summer concert is taking place on Thursday 7th August at Blyth Comrades Club. KEWEN SCHOOL OF MUSIC UPDATE I hope you’re all having a lovely bank holiday and enjoying the better weather. I’ve got some further updates related to our last announcements message. I hope you’re all adjusting to the new coded entry system. Please make sure you remember this before coming to a lesson. PRICE CHANGES As a business we are always changing and expanding meaning that some decisions made by us are out of our control but also change depending on the development of the business. Last week I was informed that we will have to become VAT registered and there’s some things that will have to change long term once we cross the threshold with HMRC. Because of all the changes, this means that we are going to postpone any recently announced price changes for the time being. They will be increasing later this year and we will need to reassess exactly how much but for now they are staying the same. Announcements will be made prior to this well in advance. For those who are eligible for a family/multiple lesson discount then we are still going ahead with the slight adjustments here and minimising it to £2 off the hour and £1 off half an hour. Thanks for being patient and I apologise for the confusing change of circumstance here but I imagine many of you are happy with the prices staying the same for now. Thanks Callum 🎶

It was great seeing Charlotte in for a full day yesterday showing students such as Holly how to use their Diaphragm and Larynx correctly - very important for singers! 😃🎤🎶

KEWEN SCHOOL OF MUSIC UPDATE I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break. There are some important updates and changes being implemented over the next few weeks that you all need to be aware of… CODED ENTRY Upon reopening on Friday 25th April, we now have a newly installed Coded Entry system on our main entry door in the courtyard. The entry code will be text to all students. This is very important and we cannot accept any responsibility for students stuck outside and not knowing/remembering the code. This is to increase security in our building so that only those who are permitted to enter can enter. I hope this make students as well as parents feel more safe and secure when coming and going from our premises. PRICE CHANGES We highly appreciate that for the majority of our customers our music lessons are a hobby and a luxury and whilst we understand that times can be tough, we believe that it is time for a small price increase as a business. Price increases are never something that we wish to do lightly and with us now heading into our third year we are looking at ways we can run the business more effectively and ensure our staff get paid what they deserve for their time. This has been something we have wanted to do in our second year however it was never the right time. We have various costs to oversee now including newly added security systems, wifi, higher overheads, more suppliers and workers coming into the fold and more so we need to weigh up how to pay for these expenses. From Monday 2nd June there will be a small increase on all lesson costs. Any outstanding lesson blocks/payments booked in will be honoured at their original price. Our new block booking prices will also change slightly however still overall saving you money as opposed to paying individually. FAMILY/MULTIPLE LESSON DISCOUNT CHANGES Also from Mon 2nd June, all students eligible for multiple lesson/family discounts will have their barriers changed slightly. This is also so we can manage our costs better overall as a music school. We understand that this will have a double impact on those already paying multiple lesson/family discounts and they will be hit with a double price increase. Therefore any student currently on a discount of this type will have this applied for the next 6 months then will have to adjust to our new pricing plan after this time period. I hope you can understand our need to do these changes in a tough business climate however I do fully believe that it will further allow us to do more with our business such as offer more opportunities to students, upgrade our equipment and premises over time, help further fund our school concerts, help keep our name out there and much more.
