KEWEN SCHOOL OF MUSIC UPDATE I hope you are all well and are enjoying lessons. As we approach Christmas season, there’s a few announcements/reminders I would like to make as well as some performance opportunities for students around the next couple of months. DOOR CODE Please remember the code you have been given for the door. You now have to press the enter button after the code. Please remember or have this written down so that you know it for entering our building. We cannot be responsible for those stuck outside if you do not know our code. 48 HOUR CANCELLATION POLICY Please remember that we operate a strict 48 hour cancellation policy and there are no exceptions to this. We ask for your understanding due to us all being self employed and having to rely on this policy to make scheduling decisions at the school. If we have to reschedule for whatever reason then the lesson will always be honoured at a different date/time. CHRISTMAS LIGHTS SWITCH ON There will be an opportunity for students to perform on the outdoor stage on Sat 22nd Nov for the Blyth Christmas Lights Switch On event. This is outside the new market pavilion building and Kewen School of Music will have an hour slot from 12pm. We had a similar event at Blyth Carnival over the summer and it was a huge success! If you or your child are interesting in performing at this event then please let us know, it will be based on a first come first serve basis. More information will be given nearer the time. CHRISTMAS CONCERT Our annual Christmas Concert is on Wed 17th Dec at Blyth Comrades Club. Our Christmas show is always our biggest one of the year and we would like to make this one extra special. Tickets are £5, performers of course get in for free. We may be splitting the shows and doing two slightly smaller shows - one for young kids and the other for older kids and adults. The shows will therefore be a little shorter than usual and all performers involved will get a gift bag at the end of the show. The piece doesn’t have to be a Christmas song but it’s the taking part that counts! If you or your child would also like to be involved with this then let us know. It is also on a first come first serve basis. GROUPS For both performance opportunities this season, we are looking to showcase some more group performances. That could be a duet, a trio or a full band performance. Unfortunately we are still working on group workshops at Kewen School of Music but we’d love to organise some unique group rehearsals leading up to either one of these shows so that we can showcase our students working in a group. If this is something that you or your child would be interested in then please also let me know and if you have any ideas on what they would like to do then that would also be helpful. HOLIDAYS Finally, our Christmas holidays this year and dates we are closed will be from Wed 24th Dec - Thurs 1st Jan and therefore we’ll be reopening for our 2026 season on Fri 2nd Jan. ‼️48 HOUR CANCELLATION POLICY ‼️ This is just a gentle reminder that we operate a very strict 48 hour cancellation policy and we cannot reschedule or refund lessons under ANY circumstances. All of our staff at Kewen School of Music are self employed and we make decisions about our schedules based on what lessons we have booked in ahead of time. This is very important for us to operate our business efficiently. As we always kindly ask for your payment no later than 48 hours in advance so that we can uphold this policy, we also have to keep our policy the same for everybody so it is fair. This week we’ve had 5 cancellations which is 5 hours of lessons we would not have received payments for had our policy be different. Some of our tutors only come in for under 5 hours per week which would mean an entire tutors wage being cut that week. We understand that some things cannot be helped but we always appreciate your understanding during lesson cancellations as we always do our best to ensure that lessons stay on and that we can maintain a successful business in this tricky climate and find ways to keep our doors remaining open and music lessons continuing 🎶 Thanks so much for your understanding regarding this! 🙏 Callum
